Family Law

Family law is a very broad heading dealing with a myriad of family issues.  It covers the areas of:  Annulment; divorce and its many facets, including child custody, support, parenting time, property settlements, and related Friend of the Court matters.  It includes pre-filing planning to post-judgment modifications.  Family law also includes:  Issues of paternity, domestic violence, pre-nuptial agreements, domestic partnerships, personal protection orders, elder and juvenile issues.

It takes an experienced attorney to be able to wade through the issues and counsel a client on what course of action is most appropriate to accomplish the client's needs.  I have the experience to best guide my client along the sometimes rocky path of the legal system.

Divorce, unfortunately, is a reality that 50% of all marriages in America results in.  If that reality touches your family, it is imperative that you have effective representation to deal with the issues that divorce encompasses.  I believe that my 35 plus years of practice, including my past years of practice as a Friend of the Court Referee, has prepared me to provide you with the very best representation.

Drunk Driving

The ramifications of this offense extend to penal, licensing and driver responsibility fee sanctions. Your drivers license can be suspended or revoked, your automobile can be forfeited, and substantial fees can be levied by the Court. A third offender is charged with a felony. You absolutely must be aware of the ramifications before you go to court.

Elder Law

Elder care is becoming the responsibility of more and more Americans with the graying of America. In most cases, either the senior member of your family or yourselves need an attorney experienced in this practice area to guide you through the legal complexities of both meeting this financial obligation and planning in advance to best preserve the assets that people have spent a lifetime of building. Wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney and advance directives are a means of planning for these eventualities. As a member of the Elder Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, I am prepared to give you the necessary advice and counsel.

Probate and Estate Planning

Planning in advance and providing for your loved ones, as you would want, can be accomplished through thoughtful planning.  My experience has prepared me to assist you.

You have been named as a Personal Representative of a family member's will; what are your duties and responsibilities?  What documents need to be filed with the Probate Court?  What is the Probate Court?  These are just a few of the more rudimentary questions and concerns that you must know and be aware of.  I am prepared to assist you in carrying out these responsibilities.

Criminal

Criminal law is also a very broad area of practice. It runs the gamut of civil infractions (traffic violations) to and through very serious felony crimes which carry severe criminal penalties of years in prison. Experienced counsel is a must to protect your rights and provide the very best defense. My twelve (12) years as an assistant prosecuting attorney provided me with the background to recognize defenses and deal with the harsh realities of criminal law.

As part of this broad category, juvenile law and crime needs to be included. A 17 year old who commits a crime is treated as an adult. Persons up to 17 would be subject to Probate Court, Juvenile Division jurisdiction, unless waived to adult court on the motion of the county prosecuting attorney. It is important and challenging to deal with these possibilities. Counsel must have the trust and confidence of his client. I can provide the trust, confidence and the best obtainable results

Real Estate

Real property issues can be as little complicated as deciding whether to purchase a home, to the more complex zoning issues. With my 30 plus years of experience, I can work to resolve such matters as: Right-of-way disputes, boundary/zoning, title issues, construction issues, foreclosures, leases and seller disclosure.

An experienced attorney can make these difficult and complex issues, which usually result in expensive consequences, go smoothly and, further, see to it that you have received the best obtainable resolution.
